When I started playing Warhammer 40K I had a plan. I was going to do a series with multiple articles and takes included. Unfortunately, that’s not happening. After the first part, I sat down to play a little and what happened is that I got carried away. I finished a damn game in one sitting, didn’t even take a bathroom break. I didn’t see this coming. So, I guess we are doing two part series only. Here’s everything I have to say about W40KSM2:
Gameplay

The last time I paused was after the third mission, where I was fighting those blasted Tyranids. And I’ve mentioned that I wanted to change the difficulty which I instantly regretted while doing the mission with a swarm of “rats”. So I switched it back, mainly because I couldn’t be bothered.
Shortly after they introduced the heretics and initially I thought they would be sort of a side mission but boy was I wrong. Anyways, dark Super Marines appeared and a lot of emotions were stirred. What I thought would be a temporary distraction, turned into a main storyline. I thought I had Starship Troopers on my hands but I ended up mixed up in a Holy War. More lore that I need to catch up on.
So it was Chairon who first lost it and started chasing/hunting heretics, which he got a slight slap on the wrist for. But not a while after Gadriel, the slimy little weasel, the first opportunity he got, he tried to backstab me. Once we get past that, the story and the game kinda comes to a fast end. Or at least that was a case with me. Maybe I was enjoying it a lil too much.
Anyways, we fought the boss, won, and saved the world that was empty? Or was it just a graveyard? But it was saved nonetheless. Titus gets promoted and gets sent on the next mission. Honestly it felt like a setup for the next part which would be okay if I was satisfied with the ending. All I know at the end credit, I was thinking “Is this it?”
As for the PVE and PVP, it’s in the game and I somewhat tested it. By that I mean I tried with PVP and absolutely hated it. I can’t see anyone enjoying the experience. And with PVE, I didn’t hate it as much (emphasis on as much). It would be more enjoyable if I played it with friends instead of random people.
Graphics and Audio

On my first day, I blamed my PC for a bad performance of the game and I wasn’t bothered as much. Now, I have my doubts about it. Every time I start a new mission, transition between scenes, or do anything that requires loading additional resources takes such a long time. So much so that I had enough time on my hands to compare it to similar games and come to a conclusion that it could be optimized better for a game of this caliber. If I bought it full price on day one, I would be so disappointed. Even now, what I feel could have been an amazing experience and really fun game is being tarnished by poor optimization. Such a shame.
Conclusion
Playing Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 was extremely fun for me. I still go around the house and yell “For The Emperor!!!”. With that in mind, if you don’t have the new top of the line PC, I wouldn’t recommend buying the game. It’s just not worth it, no matter how fun the gameplay is. As for the lore, I’ve tried to research it a little bit, just to see what is happening, who is the Emperor, and the rest of things related to Ultramarines. It’s safe to say I’m as confused as ever. There’s so much of it that it’ll require more research. From my understanding, I’ve barely scratched a surface and there’s so much more going on.
