After six years of memes, theories, and waiting, Team Cherry finally dropped the news we’ve all been waiting for: Hollow Knight: Silksong launches September 4, 2025.
The reveal came during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, and to say the internet erupted would be an understatement.
What We Saw at Gamescom
Attendees got a 15-minute hands-on demo, and the buzz is all good. Running on Switch 2 hardware, Silksong showed off everything we’ve been craving: lightning-fast combat, brutal new bosses, intricate platforming, and that gorgeous hand-drawn art that made Hollow Knight an instant classic.
Team Cherry confirmed the scale is massive—200+ enemies, over 40 bosses, and a whole kingdom’s worth of new areas to explore. If that wasn’t enough, the soundtrack once again comes from Christopher Larkin, so yes, it’ll be just as great as it was in Hollow Knight.
Devs Say: “Dev Heaven, Not Hell”
You’d think a game in development this long must have gone through turmoil, but according to Team Cherry, it was the opposite. Co-founders Ari Gibson and William Pellen described the process as “dev heaven.” They didn’t want to rush, they didn’t want to overshare, and honestly all of that patience shows.
What started as DLC snowballed into a full-blown sequel, and the team leaned into that scope instead of cutting corners. The result looks like a game built with care.
Hornet Takes Center Stage
This time, you’re stepping into Hornet’s shoes. Hornet is more agile, more acrobatic, and packs very different moves than the Knight. The story drops her into Pharloom, a kingdom that promises to feel familiar but fresh, with its own mysteries and lore.
Hornet’s mobility is front and center, meaning Silksong will likely play faster and sharper than Hollow Knight did.
Release Details & Platforms
Silksong launches across PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and both versions of Nintendo Switch. Best of all, it’s coming to Xbox Game Pass on day one, which means if you’re subscribed, you can jump into Pharloom without spending an extra cent.
The Bottom Line
After years of silence and speculation, Silksong is finally within reach and it looks every bit worth the wait. Hornet is set to deliver a sharper, bigger, and bolder experience, and if first impressions from Gamescom are anything to go by, we might be looking at one of 2025’s strongest contenders for Game of the Year.
September 4th can’t come soon enough.
