Creative Assembly Marks Total War’s 25th Anniversary With Major Announcements, New Game Reveal, and Engine Overhaul

Creative Assembly used its 25th Anniversary Showcase to outline the future of the Total War franchise, unveiling a new historical entry, significant updates for its fantasy titles, and the debut of an entirely new engine that will power the series for years to come. The event served as both a retrospective on the franchise’s legacy and a roadmap for its next chapter.

Total War: Medieval III Officially Announced!

The headline announcement was Total War: Medieval III, marking the series’ return to one of its most requested historical periods. The studio confirmed that the game is currently in early development (so don’t expect this one for another few years) describing it as a large-scale medieval strategy experience that aims to combine expansive warfare with the complex political and social systems that defined the era.

The last mainline medieval entry released nearly two decades ago, and the franchise’s return to grounded historical strategy is being positioned as a major focus going forward.

Introducing Warcore: A New Engine for the Series

Alongside the game announcement, Creative Assembly introduced Warcore, a new proprietary engine built specifically for future Total War titles. The engine has been developed to modernize the series’ technical foundation, offering improvements in graphics fidelity, physics, lighting, and performance.

Importantly, Warcore also enables multi-platform support, meaning future Total War releases will be able to launch on consoles as well as PC. Creative Assembly emphasized that PC remains the franchise’s core platform, but the move represents a significant expansion of the series’ potential audience.

Major Updates Announced for Total War: Warhammer III

The showcase also dedicated time to the franchise’s fantasy side. Creative Assembly confirmed a new DLC for Total War: Warhammer III, set for release in summer 2026. The expansion will introduce multiple Legendary Lords, with Nagash revealed as the first, and is being positioned as one of the most ambitious add-ons the game has received.

Alongside the paid content, the studio announced a significant free update that will reshape portions of the campaign map as part of a broader “End Times” event. Environmental changes, new map conditions, and global narrative effects will roll out to all players as part of the update.

In a notable move, Creative Assembly also made the expansive Immortal Empires campaign available for free to owners of earlier Warhammer titles, opening access to one of the most popular features in the trilogy without additional cost.

A Third Major Title Teased Ahead of The Game Awards

The studio closed the showcase with a brief teaser for another major Total War project, confirming that a separate title will be fully revealed at The Game Awards. While details remain under wraps, Creative Assembly described the project as one of the most ambitious in the franchise’s history, suggesting it may represent a new direction or setting for the series.

Could it have something to do with Geoff Keighly’s teaser?
