Wuthering Waves Tips & Tricks I Wish I Knew Earlier

If I learned something from playing Wuthering Waves the last 2 years is that this game isn’t as simple as some people make it out to be. I’ve invested more hours than any regular player usually would, over a hundred hours on my newest account (because I lost the old one). On this extremely fun journey, I’ve tested multiple characters, builds and I’ve tried different playstyles in order to test the limits of the game. And I’ve decided to create a list of some basic stuff that can help you during your gameplay and make things a little bit easier.

Don’t Waste Astrite Randomly

Getting a premium currency in Wuthering Waves is an extremely gruesome task, especially for F2P players like us. You’ll have to participate in every event, do every quest, finish all the challenges and find every chest possible.

Even then, it would be practically impossible to get everything. That’s just how these gacha games are set up. The only way for you to get every character, all of the upgrades and weapons that you need, is  to spend thousands of dollars each time. And if you ask me, no matter how much money you have, you shouldn’t be spending 50k+ on a singular game.

Summoning every time you collect enough for 10 pull isn’t the right way, this is something that I had to learn the hard way. What happens, I’ll try my luck each time and more times than not I’ll end up with absolutely nothing. Which means instead of waiting and pulling on the characters that you need to improve your team, you’ll get something that you absolutely don’t need.

So, save your Astrite and then summon for characters you actually need instead of losing this resource on nothing.

Learn the Pity System Before Pulling

In order to be able to follow my first advice, you’ll need to know how the Wuthering Waves summoning system works and what pity is. Pity is a system that many gachas implement into their game and it means that after a certain number of times, you’re guaranteed to get a shiny character.

For WuWa the pity is set at 80 pulls and that’s for characters and weapons. But it’s important to note that the pity isn’t shared between limited banners, normal summons and weapon summons. Also the pity does carry over the limited banners.

Focus on One Main Team First

Wuthering Waves main team

As of now, there’re over 50 playable characters in Wuthering Waves. While getting all of them is virtually impossible, you’ll still have a decent roster. That doesn’t mean you should invest resources in every character you get. It’s better to have 3 strong main characters than 20 mediocre ones. Especially in early game where you don’t know what you’re doing and they’re showering you with characters.

So my advice to you would be to pick one close combat, one long range and one support character for your team. Preferably not the same element. And focus all of your resources on leveling them, their skills and other upgrades.

Your Weapon Matters More Than You Might Think

Upgrading the right weapon can make a noticeable difference to your damage and could change the way you clear the content. In my humble opinion, I would put the importance of having good weapons over a great character any time of the day.

Not only do the better weapons have better main stats but also have different skills and bonus stats. Putting a crit damage weapon on your support is extremely wrong. For one, you won’t be able to use it properly because you’ll probably end up having 7% crit and in return your team won’t be able to survive.

The better option would be to put a weapon that increases energy regen that also has a skill that boosts your heals or give a buff to other party members when you heal them.

Echos Are Important

Echoes are a huge part of character progression and many players do not invest necessary time into this part of the game. They’ll use whatever they get and just slap it on characters without a second thought about it. Which is okay for very early game but I’ve seen my fair share of people rocking weird combinations of Echos and wondering why they can’t clear content.

You’ve put all HP echoes on your damage dealer and expect him to do something: unfortunately, not how it works.

Also you’ll have very limited resources for leveling them so you’ll need to be more frugal when picking which one to improve. I would go so far to not go beyond +5 on most echos unless you absolutely get stuck. Even then I would highly recommend hunting new echos than improving the bad ones you have.

Learn Proper Combat

Truth to be told, yes, you can go through most of the content with just button mashing and hoping for the best. Especially if you are a whale who spends a lot of dough. In case you’re an F2P like me, you’ll need to pay more attention to your team synergy, time swapping and dodging at the right time.

Most of the bosses have a pattern that is easily recognizable and you’ll have a second or two to react and dodge every attack.

Also depending on your team composition and what sort of weapons and echos you have on them, you’ll want to approach it differently. For example if you got a support that can buff damage of your teammates, you’ll want them to go first. And not only use them if your team needs a little healing. This way if you switch to a damage dealer, they’ll be able to output way more force.

Spend Waveplates Wisely

Use your stamina on materials that directly improve your main team and not on random things. But also I noticed that many newer players will focus on doing quests and forget to spend Waveplates at all, they’ll even go multiple days like that.

It’s a free and very limited resource that you’ll need to use to get certain rewards that can help with your progression. It’s of utmost importance that you use them no matter what. If it makes things easier, spend them first then go and do whatever you wanted to do in the first place.

Use food and consumables when needed

Wuthering Waves food

This is hands down one of most underappreciated features in Wuthering Waves. I can’t stress enough how easier things get if you have food always with you. There are foods that increase your stamina recovery, hp, def, crit and attack.

Using them before any fight makes things so much easier. The stat boost is important in early game when your gear is bad but also it’s important in late game where every extra % makes a difference between clearing and failing a stage.

Take your time with the story and exploration

Not to tell you how to play but rushing just through the story and not paying any attention to anything else will lead to you being stuck and unable to progress anywhere. I highly recommend making a pause after a few quests to explore the new area that you unlocked, collect chests around, do a few side quests and complete some challenges that are there. You’ll be able to prolong your playthrough and gather more resources that way.

Also don’t forget to use the Lootmapper and tracking tools that can help you find collectibles and avoid wasting time searching blindly.

Conclusion

I hope you found this guide helpful and it makes your journey a little bit easier. I know it covers only basic stuff but trust me, most players ignore them and then end up hating the game because they feel lost. If you’re interested in a deeper guide on specific stuff, let me know in the comments and I’ll see what I can do.

That experience is a big part of how I write. I like sharing my thoughts about games, no matter how random they are.
I'm not that hard to please but I don't pretend that every game is awesome. I just try to give you my honest opinion, what to expect and who is it for.
