Hollow Knight: Silksong was released on September 4, 2025, and it didn’t take long for it to make an impact. Just a few months after launch, the game crossed 7 million copies sold, backed by an overwhelming wave of positive reviews. It’s been praised for its world design, combat depth, and the way it builds on everything that made the original Hollow Knight special. By any metric, Silksong is a massive worldwide success and honestly, it’s great to see Team Cherry getting the credit they deserve.
What’s even more interesting is that the studio isn’t slowing down after that success.
Team Cherry has confirmed plans for a Silksong expansion, called Sea of Sorrow, signaling that this isn’t a one-and-done release. While specifics haven’t been shared yet, expectations are understandably high. If the original Hollow Knight’s post-launch updates are anything to go by, this expansion is likely to bring substantial new content like new areas, challenges, and reasons to dive back in.
Alongside that, Team Cherry also announced a refreshed version of the original Hollow Knight. This isn’t a full remake, but a polished edition aimed at modern platforms. Performance improvements, visual refinements, and quality-of-life updates should make it easier for new players to experience Hallownest, while giving longtime fans a cleaner way to revisit it.

What stands out most is the direction Team Cherry is taking overall. From a business standpoint, the next logical step is to release paid DLC and grab even more money. And as one of the Hollow Knight fans, I wouldn’t mind paying, they deserve it. That’s not the direction they’ve decided to go. No, they’re releasing the expansion for free. Another reason that shows that they deserve all the praise and more. I wish them all the health and wealth in the future and I’m looking forward to testing out the expansion.
